Specific Bonsai Care Guidelines For The Ficus Bonsai Plant

Position: The ficus Bonsai tree is an indoor Bonsai which cannot endure frost. It can be kept outside in summer, if temperatures are above 15 degrees C (59F) and it needs lots of light – full sun is ideal, in the house as well as outside if the tree is exposed to the ultraviolet radiation gradually or if it is defoliated before placing the tree outside. A very shady position is unfavorable. The temperature should be kept relatively constant. Figs can endure low humidity due to their thick, waxy leaves, but they prefer a higher humidity and need extremely high humidity to develop aerial roots.
Watering: The Ficus should be watered normally, which means it should be given water generously whenever the soil gets slightly dry. The Bonsai Ficus can tolerate occasional over- or under-watering. Soft water with room temperature is perfect. Daily misting to maintain humidity is advised, don't overdo this otherwise fungal problems can appear. Punjab: 9 Killed 15 Injured In Punjab Road Accident

At least nine persons were on Wednesday killed and 15 injured when a private bus hit a ‘peter rehra’ (homemade motorised cart) from behind, police said.
The accident took place at Mehta village, 15 kilometers from here, when the bus hit the “overloaded” cart carrying labourers. Nine persons were killed and 15 injured, SSP Amritsar (Rural) Jasdeep Singh Saini said.
Two persons suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Joyce Banda procures 10 ambulances, manufacturer donates one

President Dr. Joyce Banda has procured 10 small ambulances worth more
than K24 million to be distributed to some rural health centres in the
country to promote safe maternal health.
The manufacturer, Japan Auto Limited delivered the ambulances at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Monday.
Japan Auto Limited is a new company assembling various makes of cars at relatively lower prices. The company is located at the industrial area at Kanengo in the capital city.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the vehicles, President Dr.
Banda said she was very excited with the delivery and that it would go a
long way in saving many lives of mothers.
“The background to this purchase is that I had received a lot of requests for ambulances from various areas I have been to across the country,” Dr Banda said.
“Most of our rural health centres do not have ambulances to take referral cases to main hospitals and this has resulted in deaths that could have been avoided.”
She said among the areas where the need for ambulance was high were, Nthalire in Chitipa, Katuli and Malindi in Mangochi, and another place in Mwanza district.
The Malawi leader said she was aware that the demand for ambulances was high across the country, but she urged the authorities in the areas to make requests.
Dr. Banda said she was first approached by the owner of the new company who brought two samples of ambulances for her to appreciate and that she had found them affordable and convenient and hence placed an order for the 10 vehicles which she referred to as “the first lot”.
The Japanese car manufacturing company, which is owned by one Kunio Tamari, has also donated one ambulance to the President in appreciation as the company’s social responsibility to the people of Malawi and the health sector.

Malawi Hosts First-Ever Fashion Week

BLANTYRE, Malawi -- Models on the runway in Malawi sported dresses
with bottle-tops and wearing hats made of chicken feathers, as the
southern African country hosted its first-ever Fashion Week.
More than a dozen designers took part in the event showcasing chic but affordable clothing in Malawi, a conservative country where women were banned from wearing pants and miniskirts until 1994.
"The goal is to progress the fashion industry that is booming in Africa," says Dawa Loga-Lemberger, CEO of Elegant Resources, a company that is helped stage the event earlier this month.
Malawi ranks among Africa's poorest countries, though local designers were keen to show it doesn't take expensive fabrics or highly-paid models to host a Fashion Week.
Designer Eva Gertrude Kapanda said she mostly made her clothes, earrings and shoes with locally available materials.
"I usually design about Africa," she says. "For example, I use chitenje (traditional printed cloth) which is cheap. I use plastics when I make earrings. I also use chicken feathers for the ear-rings. I make stuff from everything . wood, even bottle tops."
Many of the designs on display last week mixed traditional African wax print fabrics with Western-style designs.
"I use African material to make my garments but I do it in contemporary way, something that an African and somebody who is not African can actually feel comfortable to wear," says Patricia Ntambalika, a Malawian designer based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Ntambalika says fashion has a future in Malawi as attitudes toward clothing have changed.
"Malawian women never used to wear trousers or mini-skirts but nowadays people are free and they can wear whatever they want as long as it looks fashionable on them," she says.
Grace Khondi, who attended Malawi Fashion Week, said the designers had a lot to offer.
"I'm impressed with what I saw," she said. "We have lots of talent in Malawi."
Loga-Lemberger says the Malawi Fashion Week could mean big business not only for designers but also for local cotton growers.
"We need the cotton grower to grow more cotton. We also know that for the designers to be appreciated we need excellent tailors. We also need shop owners to take our designs to the end users," she says.
More than a dozen designers took part in the event showcasing chic but affordable clothing in Malawi, a conservative country where women were banned from wearing pants and miniskirts until 1994.
"The goal is to progress the fashion industry that is booming in Africa," says Dawa Loga-Lemberger, CEO of Elegant Resources, a company that is helped stage the event earlier this month.
Malawi ranks among Africa's poorest countries, though local designers were keen to show it doesn't take expensive fabrics or highly-paid models to host a Fashion Week.
Designer Eva Gertrude Kapanda said she mostly made her clothes, earrings and shoes with locally available materials.
"I usually design about Africa," she says. "For example, I use chitenje (traditional printed cloth) which is cheap. I use plastics when I make earrings. I also use chicken feathers for the ear-rings. I make stuff from everything . wood, even bottle tops."
Many of the designs on display last week mixed traditional African wax print fabrics with Western-style designs.
"I use African material to make my garments but I do it in contemporary way, something that an African and somebody who is not African can actually feel comfortable to wear," says Patricia Ntambalika, a Malawian designer based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Ntambalika says fashion has a future in Malawi as attitudes toward clothing have changed.
"Malawian women never used to wear trousers or mini-skirts but nowadays people are free and they can wear whatever they want as long as it looks fashionable on them," she says.
